Body > Vaginal Rejuvenation
Dr. Samir Shureih a Baltimore Cosmetic Surgeon in Private practice for over 20 years and thousands of surgical procedures has extensive experience as a plastic surgeon. Cosmetic surgeon and reconstructive surgeon. which gives him extensive experience and expertise in female genital surgery. Located in Baltimore, Maryland and in Ellicott City Maryland.
Female external genitalia can change similar to the changes that happen to the rest of our body. With age and childbirth, weight changes, the labia and surrounding vaginal tissue, both external and internal, can change in shape, size and tone. Some conditions are congenital. This can be bothersome and decrease self confidence. Cosmetic surgical procedures are available to correct the undesired look whether it is congenital or acquired.
G Spot Amplification
The G-spot, named after Dr. Ernst Grafenberg, is a small, cushiony area on the anterior wall of the vagina. Dr. Grafenberg and others claim that this area, when stimulated, can lead to increased sexual pleasure. Some experts remain skeptical that the G-spot exists, however.
A new, non-surgical technique has been developed to temporarily enlarge the G-spot, and make it prominent, in order to potentially increase sexual pleasure and orgasms. This is achieved by injecting filler such as Rstylane, radiesse,or fat. The effect can last for few months till the filler is absorbed.
The procedure is relatively simple with minimal discomfort. The patient can assists the physician in locating her G-spot. A topical anesthetic is used to minimize discomfort to the vaginal wall. The filler is injected in the area. This causes the G-spot to expand in size and become more prominent. As with other cosmetic genital procedures, the G-Shot cannot cure sexual dysfunction, and some side effects can occur.
Rejuvenation of the Mons Pubis
Following massive weight gain and subsequent loss or a prolonged pregnancy, it is not uncommon for a woman to report dissatisfaction with her loose, sagging, or prominent mons pubis. Rarely patients may be born with an excessive fatty deposit in this region. Patients describe a visible pubic fullness or mass which is clearly evident when wearing pants. Many women complain that the bulge makes them look like a man. Liposuction is a convenient method of extracting and diminishing the volume of the pubis. Occasionally there is an associated skin laxity which creates the illusion of an aged or collapsed appearance due to loss of support. A lift or suspension of these tissues is accomplished by excising an elliptical (football) shaped piece of skin immediately above the pubic hairline. This elevates and rejuvenates the genitalia in combination with liposuction. It is frequently completed in massive weight loss procedures such as tummy tuck but can be done as an isolated surgery subsequent to an abdominoplasty. These areas can be rejuvenated and lifted by excising excess skin above the pubic hair and removing excess fat in the pubic region. The pubic liposuction and pubic lift procedure may be combined with a tummy tuck or requested after having a tummy tuck.
These procedures are most commonly performed under general anesthesia in our fully accredited surgical center. In individuals concerned about postoperative discomfort, a pain pump can be inserted but is not typically requested. The incidence of complications is low and manageable. A drain may be required. You can resume light duty work in 7-10 days. Sexual intercourse is restricted for about 4-6 weeks.
Cosmetic surgeons can now remove excess fat from the pubic mound. Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is used. Liposuction or direct excision is used to remove excess fat tissue. Mons pubis rejuvenation reduces its prominence back to normal and lifts the pubic area. Another side benefit is increased clitoral exposure, which can aid in sexual stimulation.
Mons pubis surgery has a short recovery period, and can be easily combined with genital or abdominal cosmetic surgery.
As women turn their attention to beauty of the whole body, genital enhancement becomes an option. Some women feel certain parts of their genitalia are too large, for example, excessively large labia majora. The outer lips of the vagina can be enlarged with excess skin and tissue. This enlargement causes an embarrassing bulge in pants or swimsuits. The labia majora may be enlarged from birth, secondary to childbirth, or due to aging. Surgical reduction of excessively large labia majora can be performed by excising a crescent from the inner side of the labia majora thus hiding the scar on the inside. The surgery is relatively minor and is not very uncomfortable. It is performed in a fully accredited surgical center. General anesthesia is usually used, but sedation with local anesthesia is possible. The complication rate is extremely low. If you have a relatively sedate job, you can probably return to work in 5 days. I will see you on the day before surgery, and you can return home 2-3 days after the operation. You can resume sexual relations in about 4 weeks.
Others feel their labia majora are too small or thin, and have lost its plumb, youthful appearance. Aging, weight loss, or heredity can cause loss of the youthful fullness of the labia majora.
To improve on the appearance of thin atrophied aging labia majora, cosmetic surgeons can inject the labia with your own body fat to restore youthful plumb appearance. This technique can also be used to increase the size of one side of the labia if the other side is normal in size in cases of asymmetry.
Labial augmentation can easily be combined with other procedures.
Reduction of Excess labia minora
Aging, weight loss or weight gain and childbirth can all change the appearance of a woman's external genitalia. These changes can effect the labia minora and majora and even the tissue around the clitoris, called the prepuce, or hood.
Cosmetic surgery is now available to sculpt the external vaginal area. This can improve the appearance and the excessive hooding over the clitoris. Because the clitoris is such a sensitive area, care must be taken not to remove too much prepuce. If the clitoris is excessively protruding or is too long, cliteropexy is performed.
Reduction of excess prepuce surgery can easily be combined with plastic surgery of the body, or other genital rejuvenation.
Labial reduction (labiaplasty) - Female genitalia are more or less hidden but larger than average labia may protrude well beyond the outer lips of the vagina causing discomfort when they rub against clothing, or during sport or sex. It is a source embarrassment and lowered self confidence. Women with exceptionally long or unequal lengths of the inner lips (labia minora) can have them aesthetically reshaped. Enlarged labia may be congenital (present at birth) or made worse by repeated pregnancies. A labia reduction (labiaplasty) procedure can be performed to reduce the labia minora.
Various techniques are available for treating prominent labia minora. However newer techniques preserve the leading edge of the labia which maintains itís normal appearance. The surgical technique that preserves the normal edge of the labia is the preferred method.
"The new labiaplasty". or" labia contouring" procedure. In this surgery, the excess labia are reduced by removing a wedge (pie shaped piece) of labia and closing the remaining tissue with a Z Plasty type of closure resulting in smaller normal looking labia. This produces a scar across the labia rather than running the length of the leading edge. This is indicated for women in whom the central one third of the labia minora is largest. Other procedures were the edge of the labia is simply cut and sutured will result in destroying the normal unique edge of the labia.
Labia surgery is commonly completed under local anesthesia using oral sedation and performed in our fully accredited surgical center. General anesthesia is available if requested and is administered by one of our MD. Anesthesiologists. The incidence of complications is low and manageable. You can resume light duty work in 5 days. Sexual intercourse is restricted for about 4-6 weeks.
Vaginal tightening - The most common cause of an enlarged vagina is childbirth. Over stretching the vagina can also stretch the vaginal tissue and muscles and thus lose the normal vaginal tone. Post-menopausal women and those treated for cervical cancer can find their vaginas have enlarged, and may seek vaginal tightening. In this procedure the pelvic muscles are tightened, thus narrowing the vagina and reestablishing the tight tone of the muscles.

- Accumulations of blood (hematoma) in the tissue which may need to be removed surgically.
- Infection, treated with antibiotics, and local wound care.
- Wound dehiscence and delayed healing, which is usually requires another surgery or, left to heal on its own, but may require further correction and surgery.
- Asymmetry, this may require another surgery to correct.
- Scarring, scars can be thick, visible and painful. This may interfere with normal sexual function, and require intensive prolonged treatment.
Follow preoperative and post operative instructions thoroughly to help decrease the chances of complications.

You will be instructed on pre-operative care.
Surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure in the privacy of our surgical center. The surgery usually takes from one to three hours.
Minor surgeries can be performed under local anesthesia, more involved surgery or on patient choice local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia can be administered. Sedation and general anesthesia is administered by one of our MD. Anesthesiologists.
Labial reduction (labiaplasty) during the procedure the surgeon removes a wedge-shaped piece of excess tissue and re-attaches the edges in a in a Z Plasty type of repair so that the inner lips no longer protrude beyond the outer lips.
Vaginal tightening: a section of vaginal lining is removed and the underlying muscles are repositioned in such a way that the outer third of the vagina is noticeably tighter. The surgeon will remove a diamond shaped section inner lining of the vaginal wall where the elastic tissue is stretched and sometimes cut or torn during childbirth. Muscle and skin are then tightened.
Labia majora reduction surgery.
Fat Transfer to labia majora for plumbing and enhancement.
Clitoral hood resection.
A dressing may be applied immediately after surgery, and all wounds are sutured with dissolvable sutures.
You will feel tired and sore for a few days. Most of your discomfort can be controlled by prescription medication. In the first week after surgery the area is likely to be swollen, and bruised, and urinating may be uncomfortable. This burning and stinging sensation can be eased, either by urinating whilst showering, or pouring lukewarm water from a jug over the area whilst urinating. An ice pack (or bag of frozen peas) can be used to decrease the discomfort and reduce the swelling. Elevation of your buttocks on a pillow will decrease the swelling.
Personal hygiene is extremely important for rapid healing and twice-daily showering is essential. Cleaning the vaginal area with surgical soap after urination and bowel movement is very important.
Loose underwear should be worn for four weeks after surgery. Tampons should not be used during the first six weeks, and sexual intercourse should also be strictly avoided during this period.
Most patients can return to work within few days provided no heavy activity, lifting or pushing anything heavy. Follow Dr. Shureih advice on when to begin exercises and other normal activities. In this particular area the scars are usually inconspicuous.
Many women find that the aesthetic improvements that the procedures give boost their confidence and improve self esteem. Your decision to have female genital surgery is a highly personal one. Not everyone will understand, yet the important thing is how you personally feel about it.
